What is the weather like in Africa?
Africa has a varying climate depending on the region. In northern Africa, such as Egypt and Morocco, the climate is hot and dry with plenty of sunshine all year round. In eastern Africa, such as Tanzania, a tropical climate prevails with warm temperatures and periods of rain, while southern Africa has more distinct seasons. For safaris in Africa, the drier months are often the best, as the animals gather around waterholes and are easier to see. For sunbathing and swimming, for example on Zanzibar, the climate is warm all year round.

Africa is the world's second largest continent, covering an area of about 30 million km². It is home to about 1.5 billion people. The continent consists of 54 countries, with Algeria being the largest and Seychelles the smallest. Africa has a huge variety of cultures, landscapes and climates, from the Sahara Desert in the north to savannahs and tropical coastal areas in the east and south. Over 2,000 languages are spoken in Africa, making it one of the most linguistically diverse continents in the world. Some of the largest languages are Arabic, Swahili, English and French. The language spoken varies by region, but in many popular destinations, English works well for visitors.
The Pyramids of Egypt
The Pyramids of Egypt are one of the world's most popular tourist attractions and are located just outside Cairo. The most famous are the Pyramids of Giza, where the largest pyramid, the Great Pyramid of Giza, is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The pyramids were built over 4,500 years ago as tombs for pharaohs and are still one of the greatest architectural works in history. The area is also home to the famous Sphinx, which watches over the pyramids. A visit to Cairo offers the opportunity to experience both these historical monuments and one of Africa's most vibrant cities.

Africa is a large and varied continent where climate, culture and conditions differ greatly between different countries and regions. Before your trip, it is therefore important to find out what applies to your particular destination. In many parts of Africa, the climate is warm all year round, so pack light clothing, sun protection and comfortable shoes for excursions and safaris. If you are going on safari, neutral clothing in earthy colours can also be an advantage. It is also a good idea to check whether vaccinations or visas are required before departure.
