The Balkans, located in southeastern Europe, consist of countries such as Albania, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Kosovo. It is an area where history, culture and nature coexist side by side. The landscape alternates between dramatic mountains, vast coastlines and bustling cities. Something that has become clearer in recent years is how much interest in the Balkans has increased. Perhaps it is due to the region's clear contrasts, you can hike in a quiet national park one day, and the next day find yourself in the historic quarter of Ohrid in North Macedonia or go south to discover the coastal stretches of Croatia. In Albania there are both beautiful beaches and mountains to climb, if you want to vary things during the same trip.
