Europe has a very varied climate, ranging from an Arctic climate in the northern parts to a warm Mediterranean climate in the southern parts. Europe's climate is influenced by the Atlantic and the Gulf Stream, which means that temperatures are milder than in many other places at the same latitude. In the Nordic countries, it is a subarctic and temperate climate with long, cold and dark winters and short but bright summers. In the central parts of Europe, it is a temperate climate with clear seasons. Southern Europe offers a wonderful Mediterranean climate with dry, warm and long summers and mild winters. In Eastern Europe, it is a continental climate with large differences in summer and winter.
The weather in Europe varies greatly depending on where you are on the continent. In the UK and Ireland, the weather is known for changing quickly and rain is not uncommon. In countries such as Norway and Sweden, it can be very cold in the northern parts, with snowy winters and cold temperatures, and pleasant summer months in the countries. In Germany and Austria, summers are warm and sunny with temperatures around 25 to 35 degrees, while winters are cold with snow and frost, especially in the Alpine areas. In France, the weather varies between the rainy and windy Atlantic coast in the west and the sunny and dry Mediterranean climate in the south, with Paris in the middle with temperate and variable weather. In the countries around the Mediterranean it is often sunny and good weather with warm temperatures.
The Gulf Stream
★ Europe is one of the world's most favored continents climatically, thanks to the Gulf Stream, which transports warm water from the Gulf of Mexico up to northern Europe. Without the Gulf Stream, temperatures in large parts of Europe would be up to 10 degrees colder.
Temperature record
★ Europe has experienced increasingly extreme temperatures as a result of climate change. During heat waves, temperatures of over 45 degrees have been recorded in southern Europe.
