Athens and the Acropolis

Athens & Acropolis Trips

Athens , the capital of Greece, is a bit special in the way that history really mixes with modern life here. You can hardly take a walk without coming across some of the world's most famous ancient sites. The Acropolis is in the middle of the city and is still one of the most impressive buildings from antiquity that you can see. But it's not just historical monuments that make their mark on the city, Athens is also very much a modern metropolis, with all that that entails: lots of restaurants, shopping, cafes and a vibrant city life. The mix of old and new is probably what makes Athens such an attractive destination, whether you come for the culture, the entertainment scene, or perhaps a combination of both.

Rhodes in Greece

Rhodes Holidays

Rhodes is one of Greece's most visited islands. Sunny days, interesting history and a lot of nice beaches come together here. The island is located in the Aegean Sea, right on the southwest coast of Turkey, and offers sunshine for over 300 days a year. This attracts many people to travel here, often well into autumn. The medieval city center of Rhodes town is something very special, and for those interested, it is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Many people usually treat themselves to just walking around there and enjoying the atmosphere. Outside the city's bustling alleys, long, inviting beaches and small villages that have retained their old Greek charm await. Are you one of those who have a hard time choosing between lazy days on the beach and discovering culture and sights? Here you don't have to choose, you get a little bit of everything on Rhodes!

Halkidiki

Halkidiki – From beaches to olives

Halkidiki is located on the Greek mainland and is known for its three peninsulas with long beaches, crystal clear waters and a relaxed atmosphere. The area attracts with beautiful coastlines, small villages and a slower pace than many of the larger islands. Here you can combine sun and swimming with excursions and visits to traditional Greek communities. Halkidiki is also famous for its olives, which are considered some of the best in Greece. The large, green Halkidiki olives are appreciated for their mild taste and firm texture and are used both in cooking and as snacks. Halkidiki is home to many olive groves where olives and olive oil are produced.

The wonders of Attica in Greece

The Seven Wonders of Ancient Greece

Greece, as many of you probably already know, has a connection to the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Two of these wonders are located in Greece. The Colossus of Rhodes – this statue stood high above the harbor entrance on the island of Rhodes and represented the sun god Helios. It is estimated that it reached around 30 meters into the air. The Colossus was built sometime in the 3rd century BC, but unfortunately it was destroyed in an earthquake and is no longer standing today. Then we also have the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, which is one of the truly great wonders. It was about twelve meters high and depicted Zeus sitting on a throne. The statue was placed inside the temple at Olympia. Both the Colossus and the Statue of Zeus have left their mark on Greece’s cultural heritage. It is fascinating how strongly their stories live on. The places where these wonders once stood still attract visitors.

Greek food

Greek food culture

Greek food is a big part of the trip to Greece itself. Much is based on fresh ingredients. Traditional recipes have often survived in families for generations, sometimes with small secret adjustments from grandma or a stubborn uncle. Olive oil is hard to avoid, it is almost always included. Likewise, vegetables of various kinds, fish, meat and herbs such as oregano and thyme really stand out here. Many people know classics such as moussaka, souvlaki and tzatziki, but it doesn't stop there. Salads, cheese and often freshly baked bread are also an important part of Greek food culture. Greece produces a lot of olives and is actually one of the largest in the world when it comes to both olives and olive oil. There are lots of different varieties in different colors.

Tips for your trip to Greece

Before your trip to Greece, it's a good idea to plan your trip based on the type of experience you're looking for, as the country offers everything from bustling islands to quieter coastal resorts and historic cities. The climate is warm for much of the year, so pack light clothing, sunscreen and comfortable shoes for excursions. Getting around Greece is easy, especially in larger cities like Athens where public transport works well. English is spoken in most tourist areas, but knowing a few basic Greek phrases is always appreciated. With the right preparation, you can have a relaxed and eventful trip, whether you want to enjoy the beaches, ancient history or good food.
